My 'Kids'

Tuesday_Annie

Tuesday and Annie are my two dogs. Yes, his name really is Tuesday. He was a stray and was found on a Tuesday by some great friends. He seemed to respond to that name so I kept it. Tuesday is a Beagle now 14.5 years old. He has been a wonderfull bud. In October 2007 he had a softball sized tumor removed from his liver and was given perhaps a year to live. It has now been almost 4 years since his surgery. He is still doing well but definately showing his age for sure.

Annie actually adopted us. She is a Jack Russell Terrior, Brokenhair. That means she has long hair rather than the typical short hair of a Jack Russell. She is now 13 years old. She lived somewhere close by but her then owner only fed her, kept her outside and never paid much attention to her. Soon she started coming around to see Tuesday. She decided our house would be a better home for her so it wasn't too long until she moved in. I saw her give the mail man a change of address card one day : ) She has been here almost 12 years now. I think she plans to stay forever. Unfortunately she too is getting old. She has lost her hearing but has learned some sign language. She is still quite active for her age.

Sad Update

After a long and great life, Tuesday went to be in Doggie Heaven on February 3, 2012. Mid December, 2011, he had some sort of problem one night but next morning seemed to be fine. However about a week later he started to go blind and was completely blind two days later. After a week or so he seemed to be adjusting pretty well but I knew his time was very limited. He still seemed to be enjoying life. The afternooon of February 3 was a very nice day. I worked in the shop and Tuesday did his thing outside in the yard for a while. After about an hour he was ready to go back inside. Around 4 PM I took a break from my work and asked him if he wanted to 'sing'. We went to the piano and he sang for a few minutes then went back to the family room, his favorite place. I returned to the shop to finish up. About 4:55 PM I heard him having a major seizure. It was very intense with no signs of abating. I knew his time had come. Dr. Orr had already agreed to come to the house when it was time. Sadly, it was Tuesday's time. I don't think he was in any pain as we waited for the doctor nor was he aware of his suroundings.

I am so thankful he had a good afternoon that day. He deserved it. I am also thankful I got two 'reprieves'. As previuosly stated, after his surgery he was given up to a year to live. Well, we got almost 4 1/2 years. Then after his event in December, we got 5 more weeks. We don't know when he was born exactly but he was well over 15 years old. I have planted a Cala LIlly out in the gargen in his honor. He is missed big time.
